Batomon Showdown Trainers: Every Ability and Which to Pick
You pick a trainer before the run and keep it throughout, and trainers change rules rather than stats. All 17 launch trainers, plus the six added in 1.0.

You pick a Batomon Showdown trainer before the run starts, and you keep that trainer for the whole run. It is probably the most important choice you make, because it changes rules rather than numbers: what your shop stocks, what things cost, how many rerolls you get per day, what types your Batomon have, and in some cases whether your whole team gets replaced.
After 1.0.0 there are 23 trainers to run into: the original 17 plus Twins, Gentleman, Painter, Burglar, Scavenger and Black Belt.
For a first run, take one that pays off immediately: Monster Ranger, Youngster, Rich Lady or Bug Catcher. The ones that only pay out on day 5 or day 9, like Egg Breeder and Gamer, are strong, but you spend the first days with one fewer trainer helping you.
What a trainer actually changes
It helps to sort them by which layer they touch.
- Shop and items: Shopkeeper pushes shop items up one rarity tier and makes them 15% cheaper; Treasure Hunter pushes your trinket gift choices up one rarity tier.
- Gold and rerolls: Rich Lady starts you on a higher shop rank plus $10, Youngster gives 3 free rerolls a day, and Gamer hands you $30 on day 9.
- How you get units: Monster Ranger starts you with an uncommon and hands over another copy every two days, Swim Coach gives you a random Water Batomon each day, and Egg Breeder gives you a purple egg that hatches after 5 days.
- Types and statuses: Chef adds Fire typing to single-typed units and boosts your Fire units’ burn, Chemist boosts poison on your Toxic units, Musician gives a large Shock boost when exactly one Electric unit is on your team, and Redhead permanently buffs your Fire units after a win.
- Randomness: Lucky Girl raises the odds of Shiny units appearing.
- Whole-board changes: Mad Scientist transforms your active team into random level 1 legendaries on day 7, and Masked Man lets you borrow another trainer’s ability every 4 days.
Every trainer
The first 17 abilities below come from community-collected game data that has been cross-checked line by line against the official patch notes: Chemist matches the 0.5.2 rework, Swim Coach matches the 0.8.0 rework, Shopkeeper’s 15% matches 0.8.0, Youngster’s three rerolls match 0.4.0, and Egg Breeder and Gamer match 0.7.4. In game, trust the panel text you see.

The six trainers added in 1.0
The 1.0.0 announcement names them and nothing more: Twins, Gentleman, Painter, Burglar, Scavenger, Black Belt.
Only Painter has an official description. The 1.0.0 notes mention “additional types from Painter, Chef, events”, which means Painter adds types to your Batomon.
The other five have no published abilities. Creator footage shows some effects, including Twins looking tied to “gain an extra copy when a monster merges to level 3”, Gentleman looking tied to “from day 4 onward, the shop no longer stocks common or uncommon”, and Black Belt looking tied to “when exactly one Fighting monster is on your team, trigger its On Victory ability”. Those are observations from live play, not official statements, so check the trainer panel in your own build.
Which trainer to pick first
Work through it in this order.
Ask whether it pays off inside the first two days. Monster Ranger, Youngster, Rich Lady and Bug Catcher all fire immediately.
Then ask whether the payoff is on the layer you want. Stable early progression points to the economy trainers (rerolls, shop rank); locking a direction early points to the unit-granting ones (Monster Ranger, Swim Coach).
Finally, avoid the long fuses. Gamer only pays out on day 9 and Egg Breeder’s egg takes 5 days. Both are strong and both are bad first-run picks.
One more thing: rarer is not better. The trainers that replace your whole board, Mad Scientist and Masked Man, want you to already know what your board is doing, or they will scatter a team that was just coming together.
Trainers that got reworked
Swim Coach was reworked in 0.8.0 into “gain a random Water monster each day” because the developer felt Water’s strength leaned on it too heavily. Because it is one of the candidates new players see on their first run, the ability was deliberately kept simple.
Rich Lady used to farm commons with free rerolls. The developer considered that off-theme for a rich lady, moved the free rerolls to Youngster, and gave her a higher opening shop rank instead.
Shopkeeper launched in 0.8.0 with a 25% item discount, later adjusted to 15%.
All three point at the same thing: if you are reading a trainer guide written in the first half of 2026, the abilities in it have probably changed. The full timeline is in the patch history.
